SAYLs Young Leaders Grace, Josh, Sam, Robyn, lead by Team Leader (Team Leader Mentor from September 2010) Sarah, attended the GB Wrestling event on Saturday 17 July 2010 at Ponds Forge.
Taking the role of Competition Stewards, their role were to look after and chaperone the elite athletes to and from the event area ensuring the event schedule ran smoothly throughout the very long day from 09:00 until 20:00.
The Major Events staff from Sheffield were very impressed with the Young Leaders contribution saying:
'After a slight delay to the days proceedings (IT issues, not our fault though) the long day began, and as ever the team on site from SAYLs were thrown straight into the mix. They were given roles where they were responsible for ensuring the athletes were at their respected matted area ready for their bouts and result running between each of the 3 mats and the event office. I think Grace must have walked several miles in the first couple of hours that morning literally, I'm not joking! So that left Sarah, Josh, Sam and Robyn with the task of rounding up the athletes for their respected bout, which was no easy task because quite a lot of the athletes couldn't speak English or if they did it was only a little. But every time I saw them I kept checking to see if they were OK, and as usual it was a positive response with a smile on their face and they clearly knew what they were doing.
So finally I just want to say a huge THANK YOU from me personally to you all and it was my pleasure to work with you five on Saturday. It’s always a massive relief to me / MSEU knowing that I have such a confident, pleasant and hard working group of young adults assisting us in the whole process and being confident in the knowledge that we can leave you to work without any worries or concern.
I hope you enjoyed the day and I'm sure I'll see you all again in the coming months.'
Paul, Major Events Unit, Sheffield City Council.
Well done TEAM, another fantastic event, brilliant contribution and clearly excellent feedback.
