Moving On Up

The 2010 SAYLs Celebration Evening took place on Thursday July 8 at Hillsborough Stadium, the home of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club.

Guests including the Head of the city Council Mr. Paul Scriven, other VIP's, parents, new and old Young Leaders alike gathered at the 1887 Lounge to celebrate what has been a fantastic year with SAYLs.

Gold Young Leaders Becky, Beth and behind the scenes Tom (Stage Manager) ran the event from beginning to end, and with the rest of the Gold Young Leaders, they co-ordinated and hosted the event from the table decorations, to the running order and awards.

Key speeches from enthusiastic Young Leaders including Katy, Josh, Adam, Alex, Amy, Ryan and Mohsin were extremely influential and represented what we are all about perfectly.  In addition to this, DVD blogs from Frankie and Beth about their disability trampoline coaching and community volunteering, with a written speech from Gold Young Leader Holly rounded off what was a fantastic schedule from a fantastic bunch of Young People.

Awards for Community Young Leader of the Year (Beth & Frankie), School Sport Young Leader (Will & Liam), Major Event Young Leader (Amy), Bronze (Josh), Silver (Carys) and Gold (Becky) Young Leaders were handed out to those who have really shone with SAYLs this year.

The final award went to Alex who won the Ian Anniss trophy.  This prestigious award was earned through him being a true inspiration to his peers and us as staff, a fantastic accolade for a fantastic Young Leader.

Team Leaders Meg and Sarah were chosen by staff members as the top two Team Leaders to become volunteer SAYLs staff next year and step up to the Team Leader Mentor role. Here they will manage a group of around thirty Team Leaders next year and contribute as SAYLs staff in team meetings.

The event ran smoothly, everyone seemed to enjoy it and it was a fitting end to an overall excellent year with SAYLs.

'We feel we have to write and congratulate SAYLs for hosting a fantastic evening last Thursday.  It really was well organised, very well presented and being Wednesday fans the venue was absolutely perfect!'
SAYLs Young Leader parent.

'Thanks for the invite to ‘Moving On Up!’.  It was a really impressive event and I thought the Young Leaders did brilliantly.  SAYLs is exactly what the Inspire programme is all about so we are really pleased to have you on board!'
James, London 2012 Inspire Mark & Yorkshire Gold.

'I just wanted to say a huge well done for last night.  It was a great event and I really enjoyed listening to the Young People speak about their 'journey through sport'.'
Karen, Forge School Sport Partnership.

Well done to everyone involved.
