Last year SAYLs were asked to provide volunteers for the Goalball World Championships. From this event that SAYLS were asked to help out with, our volunteers were recognised as a high standard group with ultimate professionalism. Jemma, Will and Alex have since applied to Game Makers to be line judges for the 2012 Paralympics. Through their hard work they will now be able to go to and represent SAYLS in a once in a life time event at the London 2012 Paralympic games! Congratulations to the three of you for working so hard to get this far. |

Congratulations to Nick who has been offered a place at the prestigious Cambridge University! Nick is studying Natural Sciences. He says that SAYLs helped him immensely in being a successful applicant. When Nick went down to his interview with the Director of Studies he prepared for lots of scientific questions, when in fact a large chunk of the interview was about SAYLs and the incredible opportunities they provide. Nick also explained to him how to play Goalball! Nick said that his SAYLs experience helped him stand out from the crowd. Well done Nick! |

A big congratulation goes to 18 members of the SAYLs team who have been picked to be Volleyball courtside assistants at the 2012 London Olympics! The 18 were chosen by SAYLs staff based on their commitment to SAYLs since they had been part of the Academy, they had to be in a particular age range to be able to be eligible for selection. The 18 previously travelled down to the LOCOG headquarters at Canary Wharf in London on the 18 December 2011. They went to the Young Games Makers selection day for Volleyball and competed against 12 other teams on the day. They were set a number of challenges including creating an advert and building a unique and creative tower. The 18 were assessed on their communication skills, team work skills and various other things. After a long hard day the team set off on their way back home where they were awaiting the news.
They managed to be selected as one of the top 3 teams and beat off the rest of the competition to gain a once in a life time opportunity and be part of the London 2012 Olympics. Congratulations to everyone who took part. Your hard work and dedication has paid off. |

On Sunday at the SAYLs update day some exciting news was passed on to the SAYLS staff. One of our Team Leaders Amy is going to be a Torchbearer! Her Mum had nominated her due to all her hard work through ongoing years. Amy travelled 5,987 miles across the world to Gansbaai, South Africa; with an ultimate goal of bettering the life of at least one child. Professionals state how “Amy leaves a lasting memory on every path she crosses’. This is clear to see through the work Amy does with SAYLs too.
Olivia (left on photo) one of SAYLs Young Leaders has also received a conditional offer to be an Olympic Torchbearer. Her Auntie nominated her due to Olivia's commitment and dedication to sport. Olivia has achieved her Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh and is preparing for her Gold award. She is a member of the City of Sheffield Swimming squad. Iin 2011 Olivia dedicated 95 hours of her time to volunteer with SAYLs, this is a brilliant achievement. Congratulations from the whole of the SAYLs team go to Amy and Olivia. |
